Edward Stämpfli - Duo (1984) for bassoon and piano is a voluminous piece in five continuous movements. The music is dense and very rich in color. The composition suits the bassoon very well, but challenges the player considerably. The piano part is by no means an accompaniment. It has an equal role and it is rather obvious that Stämpfli himself was a gifted and virtuoso pianist.
