Willy Burkhard - Romanze (1945) Op.51 for bassoon and piano. The melodies that Burkhard uses in this romance are of an indescribable beauty and naturalness. The motifs are spun out again and again in an astonishing way and, despite surprising twists and turns, always convey the feeling that it is something completely natural and organic. Burkhard saw it as the composer’s task to create and discover new forms of expression by combining the old and the new, without having to follow any predetermined musical trends. The trick was to create a personal style that sounded stylistically solid and reflected the composer’s individuality.
